How to smooth out jagged looking polygons
by LJ
Sometimes when you're modelling in CarEd, you'll find that some of your polygons seem to stick into the car, when they need to be sticking out (or vice versa):
I'll teach you how to smooth out these jagged polygons... I'll use my first ever C2 car as an example. Here I've highlighted the bad polygons in blue:
Now, the way to fix this is firstly, to delete the triangles in question. I'll show this in the left view so you can see the wireframe:
Select the triangle using component edit, then delete it (clicking the 'X')
Now, the way to get the triangle to look nice and smooth, to fit in with the lines of the car, is to switch the way they are defined, as follows:
Here you can see the difference it made:
If you apply that technique to every set of triangles on your car that looks bad then your car will have nice smooth lines and curves on it. I recommend doing this once you've finished modelling the car.
However, as a general rule to follow while modelling... when you're joining triangles together, there are two options. Try to make sure that the connecting line (i.e. the line defined by 2 shared points) is the option that lies furthest towards the side/front/back/top of your car (depending on where the polygons are facing). If you practise a little, you'll see what I mean.
